It's Monday! What are you reading? 12-22-14

Originally hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, Jen over at Teach Mentor Texts along with Kellee and Ricki at Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It's Monday! What are You Reading?

My Monday posts are generally just a highlight of what I've been reading during the week so if you'd like to see all that I've been reading, follow my Goodreads page.

Well this has been quite the productive week here on the blog. Check out all that I've reviewed and posted.

Last week's reviews:
X: A Novel by Ilyasah Shabazz and Kekla Magoon
The Palm of My Heart: Poems by African American Children, edited by Davida Adedjouma, illustrated by R. Gregory Christie

Edible Colors by Jennifer Vogel Bass
What a Party! by Ana Maria Machado, illustrated by Helene Moureau

Current giveaways:

ARC of X: A Novel by Ilyasah Shabazz and Kekla Magoon
Brunette Ambition by Lea Michele

Last week I also finished reading:

How It Went Down by Kekla Magoon
I have a review scheduled to post for this book tomorrow, but the quick review is that booktalking this one before Christmas break caused a lot of 8th graders to fight over who got to take it home and read it over break.

Currently reading:

When I Was the Greatest by Jason Reynolds

Currently and still reading with my ears:

Blackbird by Anna Carey
Five, Six, Seven, Nate! by Tim Federle

  1. What interesting books, great selection. I would love to hear Five, Six, Seven, Nate! I read the book and loved it. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Definitely want to get X and How It Went Down for my class. I loved Better Nate Than Ever, so know I will enjoy this next adventure. Have a lovely holiday, Beth.

  3. I can't wait to see your review for How it Went Down. It sounds compelling... and timely!

  4. I was a little surprised to see my copy of How it Went Down sitting on the shelf. In light of so many recent events it seems like this should be a hot commodity. I am going to take it home so I can talk it up soon. Thanks for sharing! ~Megan

  5. Enjoy Five, Six, Seven Nate! I loved reading both Nate titles.

  6. You have such a wise selection here. I met Federle at NCTE and have ordered his books - on my winter break TBR pile!

  7. Looking forward to your review of How It Went Down. I've bought it but probably won't get to it until 2015. Same with When I Was the Greatest. Loved meeting Jason Reynolds at NCTE!

  8. You are reading/finished some of the books I cannot wait to read from ALAN. Both How it and When I was look phenomenal. I also really want to read X! There are so many books that I want to read!!!!

Happy holidays, and happy reading this week! :)

  9. I was pumped to see your social media posts about How it Went Down. It is next on my list! I can't wait to hear what you think about the Jason Reynolds book. I want to read it too!

AND I was psyched to see the giveaway. I planned to order X, so I am hoping to win it! I never enter book giveaways, but this one seems very special. Come onnnn, rafflecopter!

  10. The Palm of my Heart looks absolutely beautiful. :)
