Waiting on Wednesday: The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine and is meant to showcase upcoming books that you can't wait to read.

My anxiously awaited title this week is:

The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler
Publish Date: November 21, 2011
Publisher: Razorbill
Pages: 309
Audience: Young Adult

From Goodreads:
It's 1996, and less than half of all American high school students have ever used the Internet.

Emma just got her first computer and an America Online CD-ROM.

Josh is her best friend. They power up and log on--and discover themselves on Facebook, fifteen years in the future.

Everybody wonders what their Destiny will be. Josh and Emma are about to find out.

I think the reason this story's premise resonates so much with me is because this could be my story. In 1996 I got my first computer and logged onto the Internet for the first time. Now in 2011 I am a digital citizen, on Facebook regularly and consulting the Internet for just about every life decision. I am dying to read how this story plays out.

  1. I'm with you on this one- the premise sounds awesome! I've heard some mixed reactions to the book itself, but I personally cannot wait to read it.

The book summary makes me laugh, though... I was one of those early adopters of the Internet, online in 1992 or 93, I think. By 1996, I was totally addicted. LOL, geek...

  2. Wow Allison! 1992? I didn't know what the Internet was until probably late 1995! You were definitely ahead of the curve.

  3. Omg, this book sounds awesome! I remember getting my first computer back in the 90's, and having AOL. That's how I met my hubby! Must add this to my list!

  4. I can't wait for this one. Jay Asher is a brillant writer. This sounds so interesting. Here's my WOW:
    Happy reading!

  5. There's a cover now? I didn't see it before now! This sounds like it will be an interesting story.
    My WOW

  6. Ha this one sounds really great. Techno time travel can't wait.

  7. Emily, it was just revealed today.

  8. This was my W.O.W. recently but at least you have cover art to go with yours. I thought Thirteen Reasons Why was a very well-written and interesting book so I'm waiting to see what he (and Carolyn Mackler) do with this fun turn of events. Here's what I've chosen for this week to "wait on":

  9. I got this one at ALA! I'm excited to read it.

    Please check out my WOW.
