IMM (9)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren.

This week I got some awesomeness from Alison Pace in my mailbox:

I am a fan of Alison's on Facebook and she held an impromptu contest a few days ago that she gave away a signed copy of the book of your choice to 5 people. I was fortunate to be one of the 5 winners, and even though I've already read Pug Hill, I couldn't resist getting this one signed rather than one of her books I haven't read yet since I am a pug owner and pug lover. I am excited to read the sequel to Pug Hill coming out in June called A Pug's Tale.

I asked her to inscribe the book with a little German. It says "You have nice pugs", but be forewarned: this is something that would get you slapped if you actually said this to a German woman. You see in German, pugs is slang for, well, I'll let you guess what it's slang for. My husband always says this to me whenever I've got both of our pugs on my lap. He thinks he's being cute and clever. I suppose it is in a way. He's my husband so he's allowed to say it. I thought my husband would get a huge kick out of seeing this inscribed in a book signed by an author of a book about pugs. Thanks Alison for being a good sport! :o)

I also purchased a few books for my classroom library from my city library's used book store:

The Legend of Holly Claus by Brittney Ryan
The Dark Hills Divide by Patrick Carman
The Salamander Spell by E.D. Baker
Julie by Jean Craighead George
The Squire's Tale by Gerald Morris
The Yearling by Margorie Kinnan Rawlings
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The Daydreamer by Ian McEwan
11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass
Stranded by Ben Mikaelsen
