It's Monday! What are you reading? 6-9-14

Originally hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, Jen over at Teach Mentor Texts along with Kellee and Ricki at Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It's Monday! What are You Reading?

My Monday posts are generally just a highlight of what I've been reading during the week so if you'd like to see all that I've been reading, follow my Goodreads page.

Last week I reviewed:

The Selection by Kiera Cass
Edgar's Second Word by Audrey Vernick, illustrated by Priscilla Burris
Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo, illustrated by K.G. Campbell

Picture books I read last week:

Naked! by Michael Ian Black, illustrated by Debbie Ridpath Ohi
The Cosmobiography of Sun Ra by Chris Raschka
I really enjoyed both of these picture books. Naked! is a book I'm sure all parents of children who don't like to be clothed can appreciate. The Cosmobiography of Sun Ra is a trippy book about a jazz musician who claimed to be from Saturn. I'll post a more thorough review of it later this week.

Currently reading:

Nerd Camp 2.0 by Elissa Brent Weissman

Currently reading with my ears:

Ask the Passengers by A.S. King
The Summer of Letting Go by Gae Polisner

  1. I'm waiting for Edgar's Second Word at the library, thanks for writing about that one last week! I'm glad you liked Naked, I cracked up at the part where he was "naked.... but in a cape!" Too cute!

  2. Still need to get to Ask The Passengers. I'm sure it's good. I looked up Edgar's Second Word. It sounds like one I'd like to have had a year or so ago for the 'older' granddaughter. Fun to think about for those waiting for a baby sibling to play with, & then they're rather disappointed. Thanks, Beth.

  3. I am kind of annoyed that The Selection hooked me enough to continue! I don't even *like* the first two, and yet, now I need to know how it ends. Meh. I love all things A.S. King and the audio of The Summer of Letting Go is my next in line listen. I hope you are enjoying it! Have a great week! ~Megan

  4. Beth, thanks for the review of FLORA & ULYSSES. I have been hearing great things, and I enjoyed your review! You seem to be a busy bee with all of your reading. I hope next week proves as fruitful as this week! :)

  5. Hope you are enjoying Ask the Passengers. It was my first of many A.S. King titles. Looking forward to reading Naked! Seems like it would be a great gift book for parents of little ones.

  6. The Cosmobiography of Sun Ra sounds like a lot of fun - with bizarre elements to it that I am sure I would enjoy. I am really hoping I get to read Flora & Ulysses before year ends. Iphigene has reviewed Ask the Passengers in GatheringBooks when we had our Voices of the Silenced reading theme. She enjoyed it. :)

  8. My husband just finished Ask the Passengers yesterday and was moaning about how he may never find another book he likes that much. (I was more than willing to scour my shelves and find just the right book for him to read next!) I still haven't read it, but it was a favorite in my Adolescent Lit class too, so hopefully I will get to it this summer. Think it's on my #MustRead list too. Naked looks adorable--hoping my library will order that one.

  9. I have not heard of Ask the Passengers but the title and premise are fascinating - a definite summer read! Naked is hilarious - lots of giggles from the K class I shared it with. Edgar's Second Word is one I've heard about but have not read yet - now I'm excited to find it! Thanks for the great titles!
