I didn't finish any novels last week, but these are some picture books I read that I really enjoyed:
Penguin and Pinecone by Salina Yoon
Lucky Ducklings by Eva Moore, illustrated by Nancy Carpenter
I read a bunch of Kadir Nelson picture books last week in preparation for his visit to Nicola's Books on Friday. This one was my favorite:
Testing the Ice: A True Story About Jackie Robinson by Sharon Robinson, illustrated by Kadir Nelson
Nelson's work is so moving it often brings me to tears. This book was no different, showing the human, fatherly side of Jackie Robinson, the first black player in major league baseball.
Currently (still) Reading:
The Hero's Guide to Storming the Castle by Christopher Healy
Energize Research Reading and Writing by Christopher Lehman
Currently (still) Listening:
Need by Carrie Jones
I abandoned listening to The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling. That book was just mind-numblingly boring.
Last week I reviewed:
Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys
Last week I also posted:
Feeling my way through life and music
We should be listening to our students, not reading test scores
My daughter (who's 14) has also been disappointed in The Casual Vacany. I'm still curious, since I like British small town books.I liked the Need series, too.
ReplyDeleteLove Kadir Nelson! Lucky you, getting to see him!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my It's Monday! What Are You Reading? I'd love to have you stop by!
Lucky Ducklings reminded me a little bit of McCloskey's Make Way for Ducklings. So sad to hear about Casual Vacancy on audiobook - I wonder if reading the book would be quite a different experience. Have a great reading week ahead of you!
ReplyDeleteYou have some cute books there!
ReplyDeleteI didn't do as well with my reading this week that I had done last week. Here Is My Memes Post
Oh no, this makes me very nervous to read The Casual Vacancy. I was hoping what I'd heard about it was wrong, but I'm afraid it will be disappointingly right.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy your reads!

I am also nervous about Casual Vacancy - my adult book club is reading it later this winter ... And it looks long! The latest comments from #nerdybookclub members haven't been promising. :(
ReplyDeleteTesting the Ice looks interesting Beth. There are so many books about Jackie Robinson (for good reason). Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteTesting the Ice is fantastic. It is a great story. Your comment on The Casual Vacancy was funny. I wonder if she will return to Harry Potter one day.
ReplyDeleteI adored Penguin and Pinecone. Shared it with 60 primaries and they were addicted. A lovely little read.
ReplyDeleteLove Kadir Nelson & Testing The Ice looks good. Will you get to meet him? How wonderful! I love Penguin and Pinecone, like Carrie above. Such fun.
