It's Monday! What are you reading? 5-14-18

It's Monday! What are you reading? Is a wonderful community of readers, teachers, and librarians. Hosted by Jen over at Teach Mentor Texts along with Kellee and Ricki at Unleashing Readers, participants share their reading adventures from the past week along with their reading plans for the week ahead.

Last week I posted:

How to Trick the Tooth Fairy blog tour + giveaway

Picture books that stood out in the pile last week:

Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Black Boy by Tony Medina
Beautiful and profound

Lost in the Library: A Story of Patience and Fortitude by Josh Funk, illustrated by Steve Lewis
Readers who loved the after-hours view of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler will find their heart in Josh Funk's latest picture book as Patience and Fortitude, the lions who keep watch over the New York Public Library, go on an after-hours adventure of the building they protect.

Before She Was Harriet by Lesa Cline-Ransome, illustrated by James E. Ransome
Beautiful, simple text and soul-stirring illustrations

Help Find Frank by Anne Bollman
Frank the French Bulldog has run away and we must help find him! A fun interactive picture book for any dog lover, but particularly those who love dogs of the smooshy face variety. (I just so happen to have a smooshy face dog named Frank, too). Here's a picture of my Frank with Help Find Frank:

  1. The photo of the 2 Franks is just too cute!

  2. Love the photo of Frank wth Frank! I have such a soft spot for pugs. With all my many cats, I don't think there is a lap to spare for a pug and far too many claws to swipe slightly bulgy eyes, but maybe someday....I loved Before She Was Harriet. The illustrations are superb, and the writing is also quite beautiful.

  3. Like the others, love your pic of Frank and Frank. Will look for Thirteen Ways of Looking at A Black Boy. Thanks, Beth!

  4. The watercolor illustrations in Before She Was Harriet are simply breathtaking. I loved that book. Help Find Frank looks like a fun book, and I'm always sold when a pug recommends a book! Have a great week!

  5. These are all new to me! Lost in the Library looks like one I would especially enjoy.

  6. Ah, I see our library has Before She Was Harriet. I need to check it out soon! Lost in the Library also looks good - hurry up August! And I'm interested in reading Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Black Boy. Will this make me cry? Thank you so much for sharing your reads, Beth. Have a WONDERFUL week!

  7. Love the picture of your Frank! So cute! The book sounds fun, too!

  8. So glad you were able to get a copy of Frank :)
Loved Lost in the Library. I want to share it with everyone! Hoping to get a preview in to our 4th graders before they move up to a new building next year!

  9. Ahhh, I am so glad to hear you liked Lost in the Library. I didn't get a copy, so I am eager to find it. I hope you have a marvelous week, my friend!

  10. 13 Ways of looking at a black boy caught my eye. That Help Find Frank image is adorable!

  11. I'm looking forward to reading Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Black Boy. From the Amazon peek, the illustrations look stunning!
Your pup is adorable. How I wish I wasn't allergic to furry creatures.
