It's Monday! What are you reading? 7-6-15

Originally hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, Jen over at Teach Mentor Texts along with Kellee and Ricki at Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It's Monday! What are You Reading?

My Monday posts are generally just a highlight of what I've been reading during the week so if you'd like to see all that I've been reading, follow my Goodreads page.

I'm so excited that today I will be at nErDcamp! I am excited to see and meet new Nerdy Book Club friends!

Next week I won't have an It's Monday! post because my husband and I will be in Costa Rica until July 18th! I'm so excited! It's my first time there and since we are very much "get up and go" kind of travelers, I'm looking forward to all of the new adventure stories I will be bringing back with me.

Last week I reviewed:

The Moon is Going to Addy's House by Ida Pearle
This is Sadie by Sara O'Leary, illustrated by Julie Morstad

I also posted:

Lucy Knisley fangirling

Current giveaway:

The Paper Cowboy by Kristin Levine

I finished reading:

Jumped In by Patrick Flores-Scott
Oh the tears. Thank goodness I wasn't out in public when I was reading this. The last 40 pages of the book had me weeping incessantly. I would love to make this a read aloud in my classroom, but I fear I won't be able to get through the ending. Plus there's a fair bit of language, which could get awkward with middle schoolers. Would be a good high school read aloud though.

Radiator Days by Lucy Knisley
Because I can't get enough of her work. This is a series of short comics she created while she was in art school.

Favorite picture books from last week:

Float by Daniel Miyares
A beautiful wordless picture book with a perfectly resonant ending.

Ice Cream Summer by Peter Sis
A blithe, whimsical, and slightly irreverent story that combines fantastical illustrations with facts about the history of ice cream.

Still reading:

Goodbye Stranger by Rebecca Stead
I don't know how I feel about this book yet. I'm still perplexed. Which I think is typical Rebecca Stead, so I'm just going to ride this wave.

Still reading with my ears:

Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan

I need to purchase a copy of the hardcover just because it's one of those special books that needs to be owned, but having said that, I can't imagine NOT listening to the audiobook. The addition of the music makes this almost an otherworldly experience. I have broken down crying about three times now and I'm only halfway through it. But I'm a crier so don't use me as the measuring stick for how emotional this book will make you. :)

  1. Have fun at NErDcampMI! I went last year and enjoyed everything about it except the drive. Going through Chicago during 4th of July weekend will be a _once_ in a lifetime experience. Here is my week. Happy reading!

  3. Thanks for more Lucy K.-definitely will try one of her books, Beth. I will look for Jumped In for sure. I enjoyed Goodbye Stranger, but it's puzzling just as you wrote. I hope you have a beautiful time in Costa Rica. I've been there with students, now hoping we can get a family trip going next year! Happy Travels!

  5. I loved Echo but I read it! Now I need to find a copy of the audio - the music would be a great addition! Thanks. I loved Goodbye Strange but you need to finish it - it is all Rebecca Stead.

  6. I am hoping to finish Gabi in the next two days so that I can start reading Echo - it really does sound like an exquisite book that hopefully would make me fall in love all over again. :)
